Since Fat Joe’s debut album was released 29 years ago, we’re revisiting “Flow Joe.”

We’re going back to Fat Joe da Gangsta’s first song on the 29th anniversary of the release of “Represent.”
This lovely Wednesday, July 27, must come to an end, but not before we shed some light on a Hip Hop flashback from over three decades ago. Represent, Fat Joe’s 1993 Relativity Records debut album, has been available for 29 years as of today. Represent was the first album where listeners were able to hear what Fat Joe da Gangsta had to offer sonically. The Bronx icon had been making a name for himself in his hometown—the birthplace of Hip Hop—and beyond.

Represent featured appearances by Apache, Gismo, Keith Keith, Diamond D, Kool G Rap, and King Sun. Before it was officially released, Joe shared his first song, “Flow Joe,” a stand-alone track on which he spit frank verses about his elevated status, limitless wealth, and lyrical prowess. Love him or loathe him, Joe’s contributions to the culture are valued by his followers and peers. It was a Hip Hop moment that ignited the launch into a long-lasting career.
