On “Freelance: Charlie,” Ben Reilly is the most liberated he has ever been.

A wavy B-side to his well praised 2021 release “Freelance,” rising artist Ben Reilly is back with “Freelance: Charlie.”
Ben Reilly is a Brooklyn-born and Atlanta-based artist, and here is your official wake-up call if you aren’t already aware of him.

Earlier this year, Ben Reilly, whose name is unmistakably a reference to Spider-clone, Man’s was included in HNHH’s second compilation of popular TikTok tracks. Soon after, the talented rapper was selected for Pigeons & Planes’ “See You Next Year” Class of 2022. He has since returned with the sequel to Freelance, his much appreciated breakthrough work that was released last summer.

freelancing: Charlie, Similar to how Kenny Mason’s Supercut was a deluxe-style sequel to Angelic Hoodrat, Ben Reilly’s most recent release is a B-side companion piece to Freelance. Ben’s investigation into what true freedom looks like on Charlie continues, and he also enlists Nico Porter, Kapwani, and Abstract Media artists Miseye and Luke Royal for cameos.

With a runtime of under 30 minutes, Charlie is the ideal entry point for listeners who are not familiar with Ben. Sonically, it is packed with incredible production that gives the listener both contemporary rap (such as “Agenda” and “No Strings: Look Out Below”) and classic Hip-Hop (such as “Charlie Charlie”) vibes. He mentioned the title of the project and its significance, saying the following:

This project is a B-Sides/Deluxe version of Freelance that builds on the universe it themes while incorporating new and old concepts that didn’t make the original.
