Inmate Who Escaped Kuje Prison in Niger Gets Recaptured by Police

One of the prisoners who escaped the Medium Security Correctional Centre, Kuje after a terrorist attack on the building has been apprehended by police.
In a statement on Monday, Wasiu Abiodun, the police public relations officer in Niger State, announced the arrest of the suspect named as Kazeem Murtala.

“In view of the recent attack on the Kuje custodial centre and escape of some inmates, on 9/07/2022 (Saturday) at about 2030hrs, police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Suleja while on patrol around the General Hospital (in) Suleja down to Bakasi area of Suleja and based on credible intelligence, stormed an identified compound and arrested one Kazeem Murtala aged 54 years,” he said.

The inmate admitted during questioning that he had escaped from the Kuje correctional center during the attack, where he was serving a prison sentence after being found guilty of an offense he had committed and had been in imprisonment for the previous two years.

Abiodun claims that Monday Kuryas, the Nigerine Commissioner of Police, has ordered that the prisoner be moved to the detention facility.

 

The police commissioner praised the patrol team’s efforts, the command’s spokeswoman said, stressing that the decision was immediately implemented without any delays.

According to Abiodun, Kuryas also thanked the people for providing the police with this intelligence and advised them to continue their efforts in the battle against crime and criminality in Niger State.
