119 Yoruba Princes Fight To Succeed Alaafin Of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi’s Throne

There are no fewer than 119 princes from Oyo town who have expressed interest in taking the throne of Alaafin of Oyo.

This information was revealed by Chief Mukaila Afonja, the Baba Iyaji (Head of Princes) of Oyo.

He claimed that a number of factors, including educational background, wealth, influence, familiarity with Yoruba culture, and the capacity to speak Yoruba without any muddles, would be taken into account when selecting the next Alaafin.

The 46th Alaafin of Oyo would be chosen by the Oyomesi (King makers), he said, after screening the applicants.
