The Biden administration offers to swap Brittney Griner for a Russian arms dealer: a report

Brittney Griner, a standout in the WNBA, has been offered a package in exchange for her release.
According to reports, the Biden administration has offered a deal to swap inmates with Russia in return for WNBA star Brittney Griner, who has been held in that nation for months after being discovered in possession of cannabis oil-infused vape cartridges at a Moscow airport.

Griner and another imprisoned American, Paul Whelan, would be returned to the United States, Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Wednesday.

To enable their release, “We placed a significant proposition on the table weeks ago,” Blinken added. Our governments have spoken openly and frequently about that plan, and I’ll utilize the opportunity to personally follow up and, hopefully, get us closer to a conclusion.

According to CNN, three individuals have verified that the United States is prepared to hand up Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. In 2012, he was found guilty of conspiring to sell guns worth millions of dollars illegally and received a 25-year jail term.

Griner may spend up to 10 years in jail if found guilty and the US and Russia are unable to come to a compromise. Her legal team anticipates that her medical justification and absence from and lack of criminal intent would at least bring her sentence down.
