Jones began this journey by remixing Kid Cudi’s breakout smash “Day N Nite” before the song became well-known.
Jim Jones took another journey down memory lane, this time recalling his meeting with Kid Cudi at the start of the Ohio rapper’s career. After the release of the now-classic single “Day N Nite” in 2008, Cudi became a household name. Although the song was featured on Kid Cudi’s debut studio album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, few people realise that Jim Jones was the one who first introduced the song to the world—but he is here to remind everyone.
Jones was asked about jumping on the remix to “Day N Nite” long before the song became big while speaking with DJ Superstar Jay for SiriusXM. He went into great detail about the incident, explaining why he is “solely responsible for Kid Cudi’s career.”
To begin his argument, Jim Jones stated, “Kid Cudi was a nobody.” “Under Koch Records, he worked at a f*cking store.” Koch Records took me under their wing. I had no idea Kid Cudi was employed there. Lisa Brunts’ nephew was doing some work for me at the time in my studio and stuff, and he’s like, ‘Yo, I manage these video directors, I want them to shoot a video for you and stuff like that,’ and he’s like, ‘Yo, I manage these video directors, I want them to shoot a video for you and stuff like that.’ ‘Show me those videos,’ I say. They gave me the film, which turned out to be a Kid Cudi video that they made for him for free, with him on top of the roof looking insane.”
“They’re like, ‘This is the kid that works inside that f*cking rock-n-roll store,'” the rapper said.
Jones claimed that he subsequently uploaded the video to YouTube, where it was downloaded by someone from Hot 97, and the song was then played on the radio. He was questioned if he ever received payment.
“Never. They removed me off the record when he secured his agreement and went for advertising without me on the record… That was done by DJ Cassidy, if you’re interested. Jones added with a chuckle, “You know I ran into him, but that’s my man.” “It’s always a joke, though, and sh*t like that, but yeah, it happens like that. But I’m solely responsible for Kid Cudi’s career.”
