In his hometown, Deontay Wilder received a great accolade.
Despite losing his last two fights to Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder remains one of the best and most feared heavyweight boxers in the world. The man used to be the WBC champion, and many people in his town looked up to him for years. Wilder is Tuscaloosa’s pride and joy, so it should come as no surprise that he was lavishly recognized by the city.
As you can see from the tweet below, Wilder was honored with a statue in the city. Given that he is known as the Bronze Bomber, it is odd that he should have his own statue constructed of the same material.
“I’m at a lost for words for the first time in my life,” Wilder told TMZ. “This is the concept of generational wealth. This is black perfection at its finest. This is magnificence in action.”
Some statues don’t look anything like the people they’re modeled after, so it was good to see Wilder get something that did. In any case, this is an honor that will go on in perpetuity, and Wilder will undoubtedly remember it.
